A Study on the Development and Validation of the Scale for Korean Elderly¡¯s Perception of Positive Aging

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to develop a scale that can measure a perception of positive aging in the elderly in Korea. For this, theories and concepts of self-integration, wisdom, self-realization, successful aging, transcendence, and spirituality were explored that presented positive tasks and goals in old age, and two concepts of life meaning and life goal, and the results of the two survey of the elderly in Korea, and the results of the open questionnaire for 48 elderly people were included in the selection of components. Through this, we were able to select six categories and 156 semantic units. A total of 21 academic and practice field experts participated and went through content validity three times, and they extracted 57 semantic units and confirmed 30 questions again. Using exploratory factor analysis, 120 elderly survey data of 65 years of age or older were analyzed, and as a result, 16 questions from 4 factors selected the final Positive Aging Scale. It consists of pursuing a healthy life(five questions), pursuing a death acceptance(three questions), pursuing a new goal(four questions), and pursuing a transcendent life(four questions). Finally, the survey data of 302 elderly people aged 65 or older were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis, and as a result, it was found that the construct validity and the concurrent validity were appropriate.
